A case study on Trudy Carrig formerly Logan Gold Walsh

Gibson Sheat incorporating Logan Gold Walsh is a medium sized provincial law firm based in central Masterton, Wairarapa. Most of its work relates to property law and within that conveyancing plays a big part involving approximately 300-400 conveyancing transactions per year.

Logan Gold Walsh is known among its many clients as a progressive firm with uncompromisingly high standards so it’s little wonder that in 2007 they became the first external conveyIT customer.

"conveyIT certainly saves us time; we (secretaries) can work for more than one author and when somebody rings in sick it’s easy to pick up their work”. Trudy Carrig, Logan Gold Walsh

Bruce Logan, a former partner at Logan Gold Walsh, recalls seeing a presentation of a similar product to conveyIT in Wellington in 2006. “It seemed to be a sensible approach to conveyancing in my view. We subsequently received a demonstration from the team at conveyIT, and 8 years on we have no regrets!”

Trudy Carrig is Bruce’s secretary and has been with Logan Gold Walsh for nearly 27 years, and has been involved in conveyancing for all of those years. She recalls that before they implemented conveyIT things were much less organised. “We had precedents all over the place! With conveyIT it’s all in one place. You know exactly where you’re up to and there’s no risk of missing anything”. Because conveyIT integrates with some practice management systems like Infinitylaw, files are automatically synchronised with the management system and vice versa.

Unlike larger centres, the Wairarapa is dominated by freehold land which has seen relatively little sub-dividing of existing residential lots. Transactions involving unit titles are rare and company share properties even rarer. Trudy likes the way that conveyIT removes some of the risks associated with these types of transactions. She said, “the workflow keeps us on track and guides us through the various checks and documents we need”.

Many conveyIT customers comment on the efficiency that conveyIT brings. Trudy said, “conveyIT certainly saves us time, we (secretaries) can work for more than one author and when somebody rings in sick it’s easy to pick up their work”.

When asked what is the one thing Trudy liked about conveyIT she said, “Statements! I love the way that conveyIT takes all the hard work out of statement reconciliation. It works out the rates apportionments in the settlement statements, thereby saving us time”.

In a recent survey, the majority of conveyIT customers rated the customer experience between 8-10. Trudy commented “The thought of learning conveyIT was scary at first but it turned out to be a breeze. The team at conveyIT are helpful and easily contacted when you need them”.
Trudy concluded by saying “As I said, I have been doing conveyancing for nearly 27 years and I love conveyIT. I couldn’t imagine going back to conveyancing without it”.
